Next step in unifying the European patents

The Unitary Patent that is evolving for the European market has taken another step forward and Italy has initiated the process to join the UP as well. By doing this, Europe is now covering a market which is comparable to that of the United States counting the GDP.

The Unitary Patent is a European patent with unitary effect for the territory of the 26 participating states. This will be another option for patentees beside the already-existing national patents and classical European patents.

Rome is now waiting for the formal acceptance of its request to participate from the European Council and European Commission, something which is expected very soon.
