PRESS RELEASE
24 September 2008
A further twelve patent agents with Awapatent have successfully taken the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) and will soon be ready to represent the company’s clients before the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich. The European Patent Attorney qualification is one of the most difficult and desirable authorisations that a patent agent can aspire to in Europe. Over the past five years fewer than 90 Swedish-based patent agents have qualified as European Patent Attorneys, a title that is essential in order to be able to act before the EPO.
”Swedish and foreign companies alike are filing increasing numbers of patent applications with the European Patent Office rather than in individual countries. It is extremely important for us, as one of Europe’s leading intellectual property consultants, to have access to our own European Patent Attorneys,” says Magnus Hallin, CEO of Awapatent. “Thanks to these newly qualified members of staff Awapatent now has no less than 37 European Patent Attorneys, which is a very good indication of the success of our unique investment in skills development.”
A patent agent must successfully complete the European Qualifying Examination (EQE) in order to earn the right to the title of European Patent Attorney and to be able to act before the EPO, which is one of the most important authorities for research-intensive international companies.
