Electrical and computer science and biomedical engineering in fields such as telecommunications, radar level gauging, antenna technology, laser lithography, database security and biomedical appliances.
Urban works as a patent attorney with drafting and prosecuting patent applications and advising clients with regard to patent strategy issues and evaluations of patent rights, including freedom-to-operate analyses. Urban leads Awapatent’s specialist group for US Patent Law, and has held numerous lectures in the US, Sweden and Denmark on topics related to European patent practice. Urban also has extensive experience of opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office.
Urban is also a co-author of the publication "Uncertain times – until harmonisation occurs, software patents have created an ambiguity that is detrimental for everyone", Patent World #155, September 2003.
